At this point, I think we all know that Marvel Studios will be doing a Dr. Strange movie. With that, it’s a perfect opportunity to chime in with our opinions of who SHOULD be cast in each role. With that, we have no idea what characters associated with Dr. Strange will be in the film. So we took a guess. Let us know what you think about our picks and let us know yours!
If you don’t know Javier Bardem, you’re missing out. He’s probably best known for playing Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. But he was also great in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Skyfall.
As an actor, he’s phenomenal. With a quiet tone and ability to emote with just facial expressions, I feel he’d be a great choice for Dr Strange. Javier can do the egotistical surgeon Dr Strange and the ethereal magical Dr Strange equally as well. Perfect choice, in my opinion.
I get absolutely giddy thinking of Ralph Fiennes playing Mordo. The man that made Voldemort jump off the pages onto the screen to battle Harry Potter would be amazing playing the Transylvanian sorcerer. Mordo is the mortal enemy of Dr. Strange and Fiennes is no stranger to playing the villain…Francis Dolarhyde in Red Dragon, Harry Waters in In Bruges, Hades in Clash of the Titans, Voldemort in Harry Potter, and Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List.
You’d be hard pressed to find a better two actor combo in the leads than Bardem and Fiennes.
Lily Collins, daughter of Genesis singer/drummer Phil Collins, is a gorgeous rising star in the Hollywood scene. She’s had roles in The Blind Side and Mirror, Mirror. She has the look. She is young enough, but carries herself in a much more mature manner. And the young lady is no stranger to SDCC’s famed Hall H, having been there this year for the Mortal Instruments panel. Definitely a quality choice for Scarlet Witch.
Played by Chiwetel Ejiofor
Chiwetel won the 2008 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in Othello. He has 3 Golden Globe nominations as well as credits in Salt, American Gangster, and 4 Brothers. He is a large and powerful guy that physically can play the role of Brother Voodoo. He’s a british born actor of parents born in Nigeria with a mean American accent. So I feel he could do the part well. Just look at his role of Victor Sweet in 4 Brothers and tell me he couldn’t.
Kellan seems to be another rising star in Hollywood. His breaking role is as Emmitt Cullen in the Twilight series, but he has upcoming roles as Tarzan and as Hercules. For Surfer, we really needed to find someone that could fit the body mold. Silver Surfer is naked and buff. That’s pretty much how Kellan started…as a model. But the guy can act a little bit too. So he’s my choice for Silver Surfer.
Oh Maggie Q. I’d cast you in just about anything…badass, gorgeous, and vegetarian. She’s had some great experience in Rush Hour 2, Mission Impossible 3, Live Free or Die Hard, The CW’s Nikita, and the voice of Wonder Woman on Young Justice. With the pedigree of being the voice of Wonder Woman and being a strong action character, she would be a great fit for the sorceress Salome.
The choice of Jason Behr was mostly finding a guy who was a bit older, but didn’t look his age at all and was in good shape. Jason fits that bill. Not to mention that he played a great character in television’s Roswell. I doubt Namor will have a huge role, even if he makes the film. But I think Jason would be a good Namor.
Wong is the martial arts expert servant of Dr Strange. I think Donnie Yen would be the perfect choice. Not only is Yen asian (surprise!), but he’s a martial artist that popularized the style known as Wing Chun. He’s got a long list of films he has been in, but likely nothing you’ve seen. They’re mostly asian films: Legend of the Fist, Iron Monkey, etc. Yen has the pedigree and martial arts skill to be a great Wong.
