Casting Call is a throwback to Wizard Magazine. In the segment, we take a property from an existing medium (comic books, cartoons, etc) and name who we’d want to play them in a movie version if we were the casting director. As with everything on, we welcome your opinions.

played by JAI COURTNEY

Jai Courtney as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe

Jai Courtney as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe

Jai Courtney can be seen in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Jack Reacher, and A Good Day to Die Hard. He’s not Sir Lawrence Olivier, but he’s more than a solid potential action film star. So he could easily pull off being He-Man.

Katie Cassidy as Teela, daughter of Man-At-Arms

Katie Cassidy as Teela, captain of the Royal Guard

Katie Cassidy has mostly appeared in fluff TV such as Gossip Girls and Supernatural, but she’s definitely played a much more badass role in the latest Nightmare on Elm Street movie. If you can fight off Freddy Krueger, you can fight off Skeletor. I realize that Katie doesn’t have the best of resumes for the role, but she’s attractive, looks the part, and has had some success in Hollywood.

played by JEFF BRIDGES

Jeff Bridges as Man-At-Arms, military head

Jeff Bridges as Man-At-Arms, heroic master of weapons

Can anyone say anything bad about Jeff Bridges? He’s had a more than solid film career and has played some badass roles in Iron Man, Tron, and True Grit. The Iron Man and True Grit roles just cemented him as being able to play a badass Duncan. He is gruff, older, but can still swing a medieval weapon. Perfect choice for man-at-arms.

Ram Man:
played by KEVIN JAMES

Funny man Kevin James as Ram Man, heroic master of ramming things

Funny man Kevin James as Ram Man, heroic human battering ram

For good or bad, I think we all know who Kevin James is. Personally, I can’t really stand the guy. But seeing clips of him in Here Comes the Boom, it made me think he could pull off a solid Ram Man. Rammy doesn’t need a good actor. Rammy doesn’t say anything smart. Rammy is just a big lug that smashes things with his head. James got a lot more solid for his role in Here come the Boom, so physically he can fill the role. And he is lunkheaded enough to pull off any of the things Ram Man would say.

played by ADRIAN BRODY

Adrian Brody as Stratos, heroic master of the sky

Adrian Brody as Stratos, heroic winged warrior

Adrian Brody is a phenomenal actor, having won an Academy Award for his role in the Pianist. He’s also played strong roles in The Thin Red Line, Summer of Sam, and The Darjeeling Limited. So he more than has the chops. I think Stratos is an underrated and underused character. I think Brody not only has the look and physique to pull of Stratos, but he has the acting chops to more than bring the character to life.

played by Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett as Sorceress

Cate Blanchett as Sorceress, heroic guardian of Castle Grayskull

What do I even need to say here? Cate Blanchett would be perfect for this role? Have you seen any of the Lord of the Rings films? Her portrayal of Galadriel was flawless. Even better was her role as Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator. Her acting style and formal style would make an amazing sorceress.

played by JIM CUMMINGS

Jim Cummings as the voice of Orko

Jim Cummings as the voice of Orko, heroic court magician

I would more than imagine that Orko would be a CGI character in the live-action Masters of the Universe film. The miniature court magician has a cartoonish and unique voice. Who better to bring that to life than Jim Cummings? Jim has done well for himself as a voice actor. He’s done such roles as Winnie the Pooh, Darkwing Duck, Hondo on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Thanos in Superhero Squad, Fuzzy Lumpkins in The Powerpuff Girls, and Morrocco Mole in Secret Squirrel. The man could develop an amazing Orko voice that not only was true to the cartoon, but bring a new and modern angle.

Yvonne Strahovski as Adora/She-Ra

Yvonne Strahovski as Adora/She-Ra, leader of the Great Rebellion

Adora (aka She-Ra) is a bad ass. She’s the princess of power and the leader of the Great Rebellion. Who could do a better job than Yvonne? If you don’t remember her, she was Sarah in Chuck. A truly great role that showed what a powerful woman could do. That fits perfectly with the character roles. Plus she’s gorgeous. That never hurt anything.

Brian Thompson as Skeletor

Brian Thompson as Skeletor, evil lord of destruction

You probably couldn’t name any of Brian Thompson’s roles, but I can promise you recognize him. He’s a super unique looking guy. Looks-wise, physique-wise, he could easily pull of Skeletor. He can brood and scowl long enough to pull of skeletor. He isn’t strong enough to pull off a leading character like He-Man, but he has enough acting skill to pull off Skeletor.

played by WWE’s KANE

Kane as Beast Man

Kane as Beast Man, savage henchman

All I’m looking for in a good Beast Man is a a ugly, giant of a man and that is what Kane is. He’s a 7ft monster that can do Skeletor’s bidding. He wasn’t much more in the cartoon, so I don’t expect more in the movie.

Amanda Seyfried as Evil-Lyn

Amanda Seyfried as Evil-Lyn, evil warrior goddess

I always thought Evil-Lyn was the most interesting of the MotU villains. She was much more vocal than Skeletor, had more powerful magic, and was just as villainous. So in my opinion, we need a really good actress to portray Evil-Lyn. That actress is Amanda Seyfried. Amanda is a very highly regarded actress in Hollywood and has given great performances in both Les Mis and Mama Mia as well as being the only bright spot in Red Riding Hood. Judging by her portrayal of Linda Lovelace in the recent movie Lovelace, she can pull off the darker role. Plus she has that beautiful, but sinister look to be the part.

played by HOLT McCALLANY

Holt McCallany as Trapjaw

Holt McCallany as Trapjaw.

Holt is a well-travelled acting journeyman that is regarded as one of the more underrated actors in Hollywood. He’s big and he’s rugged and he plays well off other actors. I think those skills help make a solid Trapjaw. Although Trapjaw is many-a-fan favorite, but he’s lower on the totem than a lot of characters. So you can’t have the actor overshadow the others. Holt can bring the look as well as feed off those in the scenes with him…without stealing the show or being out-acted.

played by ANDY SERKIS

Andy Serkis as Merman

Andy Serkis as Merman, ocean warlord

Again, I see Merman as a CGI character. Unlike Orko, who is nothing like a human-being, Merman has many human characteristics. So I see him as being CGI, but based off the movement and features of an actor. Andy is famously known as the guy who brough Gollom to life in the Lord of the Rings movies. He did such a great job, that numerous people called for him to be nominated for an Academy Award. He has the experience and skill to bring a great Merman to the big screen.
