The Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth is coming to the Windy City. Make: and event partner Reed Exhibitions announced today, Maker Faire Chicago 2017 @ C2E2, a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.
Maker Faire is a two-day, all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. “Makers” from around the Midwest and beyond will come to Maker Faire Chicago to show what they have made and to share what they have learned during the making process. The Faire will take place in Lakeside Center at McCormick Place on Saturday, April 22, from 10am to 7pm and Sunday, April 23, from 10am to 5pm.
Maker Faire Chicago will be one of three Flagship Faires in 2017, with existing events in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. Unique to Maker Faire Chicago is its co-location at McCormick Place with the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), a comic book and pop culture convention spanning the latest and greatest from the world of comics, movies, television, toys, anime, manga and video games. The two events will provide attendees with a fun-filled weekend celebrating the many diverse aspects of creativity, innovation, and technology.
“We have known that Chicago supports a growing maker community and we have wanted to organize Maker Faire Chicago to reflect the extent and diversity of making in Chicago,” said Dale Dougherty, founder and chief executive officer of Maker Media, who co-founded Maker Faire in 2006. “Maker Faire celebrates innovation, creativity, and collaboration so that together we can build a better future. We are excited to partner with Reed Exhibitions to bring Maker Faire to Chicago at McCormick Place, co-located with C2E2, we believe we have found an excellent partner in Reed Exhibition to launch Maker Faire Chicago.”
“Reed Exhibitions is excited to partner with Make: to launch a flagship Maker Faire alongside C2E2,” said Nancy Walsh, President, Reed Exhibitions North America. “Make: is a respected brand and a leader in the Maker Movement and we believe that this launch will open up many opportunities for the future growth of both events, continuing to bring a one of a kind event weekend to the city of Chicago.”
Maker Faire Chicago festival goers are in for a big treat from the hundreds of creative Makers who will be sharing their latest creations and stories of DIY ingenuity. There is something for everyone at Maker Faire. Whether attendees are seven or seventy, DIY experts or complete beginners, they’ll find something to learn about, build, or make.
