Since finding out that my wife is pregnant with our first child, my perception of certain things I have held fairly sacred have changed. Let’s go with Hellboy. I really like the character and book Hellboy that Mike Mignola created. Previously, I would have freaked out about making a childish kid version of such a great character. But since learning I am going to be a dad, my opinion has done a 180. Now, checking out the Itty Bitty Hellboy book, it’s something I really dig and hold a new appreciation for.
There is a new generation of kids coming up and not all of them are old enough to be reading and learning about great characters like Hellboy. So having a really kid friendly take on a great character serves as a perfect entry point. Itty Bitty Hellboy takes the essence of all of the characters from the Hellboy Universe and puts them into kid bodies.
Truth be told, this book will not be for everyone. If you’re a hardcore comic fan, you will probably not dig this book. But for me, this is a great book that I’ve added to the collection that I can read to my child and bond over a character I love that’s on an appropriate level for him/her.
I know that there are a ton of other people in my position. I promise you that this will be a great acquisition for your collection. If you like programs like Superhero Squad, this will be right up your alley.
