“In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.”
In 1983, NBC launched a television show called The A-Team about a fictional group of ex–U.S. Army Special Forces personnel who, after being imprisoned as war criminals “for a crime they didn’t commit”, escape and, while still on the run from the army, work as soldiers of fortune. Pretty much the best premise for a television show ever.
In 1984, Galoob launched their 6″ toy line version of the characters of the show. Today’s VToD is the team’s pilot Captain H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock, who has been declared insane and lives in a Veterans Administration mental institution for the show’s first four seasons.
